War Diary, 1/18th London Regiment – December 1916


December 1st/2nd.
In Brigade Reserve. Halifax Camp.


December 3rd.
Relieved 17th Battalion in Left Sub-Sector. Hill 60 sector.


December 4th to 8th.
In the line.


December 9th.
Relieved by 17th Battn and moved to Support with HQ at railway Dugouts with one Coy, 2 Coys at Belgian Chateau, and one Coy at Battersea Farm.
December 10th to 13th.
In support.


December 14th.
Relieved 17th Battalion in Left Sub-Sector – Hill 60 sector.


December 15th.
In the Line. Heavy bombardment by hostile trench mortars and artillery from 7am till 10am. A second heavy bombardment by hostile artillery and trench mortars from 4.10 till 5pm.
S.O.S. signal put up by Bttn. on the left. Enemy came over but were driven back.


December 16th to 18th.
In the Line. Quiet.


December 19th.
In the Line. Camouflet sprung by Australian Tunnelling Company at 2am. No action followed. Relieved by 23rd Bttn at 10pm and went back to Scottish Lines by train from Ypres.


December 20th.
At Scottish Lines.


December 21st.
Camp inspected by General Sir Douglas Haig.


December 22nd to 28th.
At Scottish Lines.


December 29th.
Went into Reserve with HQ and two Coys at Swan Chateau and two Coys at Chateau Silard.


December 30th/31st.
In Reserve.
